He is unaware that no matter how hard he tries to commit the murder and get away with it without suspicion, the morality is that murderers will always face the consequences. He doesn't take this seriously, thinking the witches are just playing tricks on him, but when the first part of the prophecy comes true, he believes that they are telling the truth and will likely take any risks to make the second half of the prophecy come true. So much so that he is given a new title when another general is executed for treason, but before this, Macbeth meets three weird sisters on the Scottish moors who predict he will become Thane of Glamis and then King of Scotland.
